The Bills will have to be sold to pay the taxes on Ralph Wilson’s estate. Unless one of the three upstate New York billionaires steps forward and offers $800 million cash for the team, it is inevitable that the team will be sold to out-of-town interests. The reason is that the team does not generate enough revenue in the small Buffalo market to service debt payments if the sale price were borrowed. Bills owner Ralph Wilson realizes this. He is taking responsible steps to transition the team to Toronto, one of the largest and most affluent markets in North America. The Bills have entered into a five year contract until 2012 with Rogers Communications of Toronto for $78 million to play Bills games at the Rogers Centre domed stadium. The Bills lease with Erie County for Ralph Wilson Stadium expires in 2012. The team could then move to Toronto. There are many extremely wealthy businessmen in Toronto who could easily handle the purchase of the Bills. The team has languished for years in Buffalo. It has missed the playoffs for ten straight years. Only one other NFL team has such a record. New ownership will revitalize a moribund franchise. There is a need for new coaching, scouting, and players. My website, www.torontobills.com, through daily updates to the blog, stresses these themes. I invite you to visit the site and read some of the postings.
